Key findings
The questionnaire was answered by 131 persons who had experienced harassment or hate speech because of belonging to one of the following groups: foreign-language speakers, foreign-nationals or immigrants. In addition 8 persons where interviewed in this group. One-half of the persons in this group had experienced harassment or hate speech 1-5 times during the last 12 months, 30 % had experienced harassment or hate speech at least once a month. The harassment or hate speech was encountered most often in public places such as streets, parks, car parks and public transportation. Other common places mentioned were Facebook and public discussion forums, coffee houses, restaurants and bars. The most common forms of hate speech and harassment were verbal attacks, harassment and humiliation.
Methodology (Qualitative/Quantitative and exact type used, questionnaires etc)
Survey based on open questionnaire and target group interviews. In addition expert interviews and other secondary sources were used as background material. The online questionnaire was accessible between August and November 2015, the interviews with target groups were conducted between September and November 2015 and the expert interviews in November-December 2015.
